Turning Plastic Waste Into Community Solutions
We’ve been following the good work of Precious Plastics for some time. They’ve shown us that action and solutions are possible: waste plastic can be repurposed into useful things! Even better, they’ve provided blueprints, machine designs, and step-by-step guides to make it happen.
Our long-term vision is bold:
Collect plastics in New Zealand, Samoa, and even from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Chip, extrude, and transform them into items our island communities can use—plates, cups, roof tiles, fence posts.
Create products we can sell to fundraise—jewelry, bowls, 3D printing filament, and more.
We know that’s a big plan (and we don’t want to wait too long!). So, we’ve started small and practical:
Secured a mini muncher and extrusion machine
Set up a plastic collection post in central Christchurch
Opened a workspace at our HQ at The Galaxy Arcade
Begun making plant pots as our first product
Next steps: learn to make 3D filament, then buy a big printer to make even cooler things
The mission is on.We meet Mondays at The Galaxy HQ to collect plastic, munch it down, and make new things.
Get Involved
Join us – come along on Mondays
Collect plastic – bring it in
Build your own machines – we’ll share knowledge
Pick up plastic with us – community cleanups coming
Together we can turn waste into something powerful: a cleaner planet, stronger communities, and creative new products.
